"Mattress Mac" of Beijing |
Merging traffic-Our bus seemed to have the right-of-way |
The transportation system in Beijing was the one of the first things to amaze us. There are cars everywhere and where there is not a car, there is a bicycle of some type. There are thousands of bikes, people going to work and people carrying on commerce on the back of their bike. The most popular form of delivery vehicle is a 3-wheeled bike with some rack on the back. One of the pictures shows a bike deliverying a mattress with a sofa on top of the mattress. We did see alot of electric bikes and a few gas powered bikes, but very few real motorcycles. When traffic comes to one of the traffic circles that handles intersecting streets, it is a big game of "chicken". Amazingly, we only saw a couple of fender benders, but heard many, many horns honking.
